Steady State Liquid Permeameter

The PMI Steady State Liquid Permeameter is used to measure the permeability of samples such as oil-well cores, tight gas sandstones, and other low‑permeability rocks. Liquids such as brine, oil, and other compatible fluids are used as the permeating medium. The instrument measures the pressure drop and flow rate through the sample during the test. A rock sample is placed in the sample chamber where confining pressure is applied. While the sample is under confining stress, permeability-related properties are measured.

The PMI Steady State Liquid Permeameter determines permeability characteristics of core samples under controlled confining pressure. The PMI Automated Liquid Permeability System is specially designed for testing rock core samples. Core samples are placed in a Hassler‑type core holder which compresses the sample to the desired confining pressure. Tests are typically conducted at ambient temperature. Both non‑aqueous fluids (oil, kerosene) and aqueous fluids (brine or equivalent) can be used. The instrument measures the flow rate of a known liquid to calculate permeability. The system is fully automated. Test execution, data acquisition, data storage, and data management are handled by PMI software. Operator involvement is minimal, and the instrument is robust and requires minimal maintenance.
